"What is Love?" 2024MBKCares and the Walnut West Library have partnered once again for a wonderful event. The 2nd annual "What is Love?” program takes place Tuesday, February 13, 2024 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the Walnut West Library located at 40th and Walnut Street in Philadelphia. Admission is free and guests will be provided free refreshments as well. This will be an event full of hope expressed through creative arts and guest speakers. The program will include poetry and spoken word performances, a mental health panel discussion, and additional activities promoting mental health.
Featured poets include Mo The Poet, Lindo Yes, and Purpose. Special guest presenters include Kaloni Davis, Allana Joyner-Stephens, and Dejenaba Najuma Gordon. Hosted by Rashida Henry. MBKCares Presents: "Discovering Mental Wealth" @ The Discovery CenterSunday, September 7, 2024; 4pm-7pm
A unique arts and healing experience. This will be an event full of hope expressed through the creative and performing arts. The program will include poetry and spoken word performances, a mental health panel discussion, and additional forms of entertainment and activities promoting mental health. Spoken word performances by Ihsan Hines aka Purpose, Mo The Poet, Lindo Yes, and Lemonade Dream. Panelists and presenters include Kaloni Davis (NorthStar Visions), Petra Kottsieper (Community Behavioral Health), and Allana Joyner-Stephens (C.H.A.O.S.) "What Is Mental Wealth To Me?" panel discussion moderated by Eric Marsh Sr. (The Fathering Circle) Special messages will be shared by Francesca Reicherter, (Founder of Inspiring My Generation) and Philip Tyler (Public speaker and mental health advocate). MBKCares and Kaloni Davis have partnered with the Free Library of Philadelphia for an event that will take place in the Skyline Room in the Parkway Central Library located at 19th and Vine Street. The event, "Psychology In Cinema", will feature "The Evaluation" film as well as a panel discussion about the film and mental health. Join us Friday, November 18, 2022 from 5:30pm-7:30pm with doors opening at 4:30pm. It's totally free to attend and refreshments will be provided.
“The Evaluation” is a short psychological thriller written and directed by Kaloni Davis, centered around the negative perceptions of black men. Kaloni Davis is a Philadelphia based filmmaker and graduate of Temple University’s film school. Since graduating, Kaloni has written, produced and directed several independent films, music videos and documentaries. His favorite genres are action, thrillers and horror. In addition to filmmaking, Kaloni has a deep passion for serving the black community and has spent significant time working with non-profit organizations, using his craft to support black men and boys. His goal is to take his talents to mainstream audiences while continuing to support efforts to uplift the underserved within his community.
Kaloni and MBKCares have joined forces to create "The Psychology in Cinema' tour. Their goal with this tour is to visit community centers, college campuses and theaters across the country using The Evaluation as a talking piece. They strongly believe that media combined with healthy discussions are two tools that have the power to quell the mental health, violence and racial disparities plaguing America today. Wellness Wednesday
The MBKCares “Wellness Wednesday” discussions were created to offer hope and solutions to help everyone improve their quality of life. These are virtual discussions that were created online during the pandemic of 2020. Our first season consisted of 13 weekly episodes and each episode from season 1 are available to view on the MBKCares Facebook page and on the MBKCares YouTube Channel.
The weekly live discussions take place every Wednesday @ 6pm. The livestream broadcast originates on the MBKCares Facebook Page @ 6pm. Season 2 began on Wednesday July 29, 2020.

MBKCares Community Events
My Brother's Keeper Cares hosted a monthly community night gathering and discussion centered around mental health. Information will be available regarding counseling resources, various support groups, as well as suicide prevention and awareness. There will be artistic expressions with messages of faith, hope, and love. Light refreshments will be served. Prior the pandemic the MBK community night gatherings took place on a monthly basis at the Blanche Nixon Cobbs Creek Library located at 5801 Baltimore Avenue, Phila., PA 19143. The meetings will resume in the near future once it's safe to do so. We look forward to seeing you soon as we encourage one another to heal and grow.

Minority Mental Health Month
July is Minority Mental Health Month and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Philadelphia Chapter is offering a special training for people within the MBKCares network. If you're reading this message you are part of that community. The next training session that will be provided takes place this upcoming Thursday July 23rd at 6pm. "Minding Your Mental Health" training will be conducted by Mary Ann Murtha (Area Director of A.F.S.P. Philly). I will also be present to participate in the open dialogue portion of the training. We have a limited amount of spots available so I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity while it's here. I have participated in this training and it has been life changing for me. "Minding Your Mental Health" will help everyone to understand ways to improve our mental health and quality of life. The session will take place via Zoom.
