What is Love? @ Walnut West Library
MBKCares and the Walnut West Library partnered once again for a meaningful and inspiring community gathering. The 4th Annual “What is Love?” program took place on Saturday, February 14, 2026, from 1:00 PM–4:00 PM (doors opened at 12:30 PM) at the Walnut West Library, located at 40th and Walnut Street in Philadelphia. Admission was free, and guests enjoyed complimentary refreshments. The event was filled with hope expressed through creative arts and open dialogue. Together, participants explored the meaning of love from multiple perspectives, including self-love, community care, healing, and social responsibility. The keynote speaker was Miss Philadelphia 2026, Stephanie Skinner. Stephanie, the founder of Hands Of Hope, shared a special message about love. The program featured powerful spoken word performances by Mo The Poet (Spoken Word Artist) and King Deen (Youth Ambassador). Attendees also heard from an engaging panel of community leaders and professionals as they discussed love and wellness. Expert panelists included Tyrique Glasgow (Executive Director, Young Chances Foundation), Jessica Hackett-Smith (Licensed Professional Counselor), Qóura Jones (Herbalist), and Vernon Ray (Founder of Shoot Cameras, Not Guns). Featured speakers included Allana Joyner-Stephens (Founder of CHAOS) and Ronald G. Waters (Community Leader). The event was hosted by Ihsan Hines, also known as Purpose, President and Founder of My Brother’s Keeper Cares. The Walnut West Library is located next to the University of Pennsylvania, directly on the corner of 40th and Walnut Street. The exact address is 201 S. 40th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104. "What is Love?" 2024MBKCares and the Walnut West Library have partnered once again for a wonderful event. The 2nd annual "What is Love?” program took place Tuesday, February 13, 2024 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the Walnut West Library located at 40th and Walnut Street in Philadelphia. Admission was free and guests were provided free refreshments as well. This was an event full of hope expressed through creative arts and guest speakers. The program included poetry and spoken word performances, a mental health panel discussion, and additional activities promoting mental health.
Featured poets included Mo The Poet, Lindo Yes, and Purpose. Special guest presenters included Kaloni Davis, Allana Joyner-Stephens, and Dejenaba Najuma Gordon. Hosted by Rashida Henry. What is Love?MBKCares and the Walnut West Library partnered for a wonderful event known as "What is Love?" This program will included poetry, spoken word, and musical performances. We concluded the evening with a panel discussion about love and mental health. The panel discussion included mental health professionals and performing artists. There was a brief period of time for open mic artists to be involved with the program. Monday, February 13, 2023 from 6:00pm-7:30pm with doors opening at 5:30pm. "Psychology In Cinema"
MBKCares and Kaloni Davis partnered with the Free Library of Philadelphia to host Psychology In Cinema, an event held in the Skyline Room at Parkway Central Library, located at 19th and Vine Street. The program featured a screening of The Evaluation followed by a panel discussion exploring the film’s themes and their connection to mental health.
The event took place on Friday, November 18, 2022, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, with doors opening at 4:30 PM. The program was free and open to the public, and light refreshments were provided.
The Evaluation is a short psychological thriller written and directed by Kaloni Davis, centered on the negative perceptions of Black men. Addressing themes of mental health and race, and driven by an unexpected plot twist, the film served as a powerful catalyst for conversation and reflection. Attendees were invited to engage in dialogue following the screening, using the film as a springboard for meaningful discussion.

Kaloni Davis is a Philadelphia-based filmmaker and a graduate of Temple University’s film school. His work includes several independent films, music videos, and documentaries, with a creative focus on action, thrillers, and horror. Beyond filmmaking, Kaloni is deeply committed to serving the Black community and has worked extensively with nonprofit organizations, using his craft to support Black men and boys while amplifying underrepresented voices.
Together, MBKCares and Kaloni Davis launched the Psychology In Cinema initiative to bring film-based mental health conversations to community centers, college campuses, and theaters. The November 18, 2022 event at the Free Library of Philadelphia marked the official kickoff of this effort, highlighting the power of media and dialogue to address mental health, violence, and racial disparities.

Wellness Wednesday
The MBKCares “Wellness Wednesday” discussions were created to offer hope and solutions to help everyone improve their quality of life. These are virtual discussions that were created online during the pandemic of 2020. Our first season consisted of 13 weekly episodes and each episode from season 1 are available to view on the MBKCares Facebook page and on the MBKCares YouTube Channel.
The weekly live discussions take place every Wednesday @ 6pm. The livestream broadcast originates on the MBKCares Facebook Page @ 6pm. Season 2 began on Wednesday July 29, 2020.

MBKCares Community Events
My Brother's Keeper Cares hosted a monthly community night gathering and discussion centered around mental health. Information will be available regarding counseling resources, various support groups, as well as suicide prevention and awareness. There will be artistic expressions with messages of faith, hope, and love. Light refreshments will be served. Prior the pandemic the MBK community night gatherings took place on a monthly basis at the Blanche Nixon Cobbs Creek Library located at 5801 Baltimore Avenue, Phila., PA 19143. The meetings will resume in the near future once it's safe to do so. We look forward to seeing you soon as we encourage one another to heal and grow.

Minority Mental Health Month
In recognition of Minority Mental Health Month, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Philadelphia Chapter offered a special Minding Your Mental Health training for members of the MBKCares network. The session was made available to individuals within the MBKCares community as an opportunity to deepen understanding around mental wellness and self-care.
The training took place on Thursday, July 23, at 6:00 PM and was conducted virtually via Zoom. The session was led by Mary Ann Murtha, Area Director of the AFSP Philadelphia Chapter. Ihsan Hines, President and Founder of MBKCares, was also present and participated in the open dialogue portion of the training.
Minding Your Mental Health focused on practical strategies to improve mental health and overall quality of life. Participants engaged in meaningful discussion and reflection, gaining tools that support personal well-being and resilience. The session was described by attendees as impactful and affirming, reinforcing the importance of accessible mental health education within the community.
